Letter writing is an antidote to many of the challenges posed by social media today. Handwritten letters take time to write, and the exchange of letters promotes a kind of slow reflection and focus that is different from the instantaneous, knee-jerk responses common in our digital world. With handwritten letters we don't use shorthand as much, but force ourselves to express our thoughts completely. We have time to digest and process what we've heard from someone before responding.
